If you holiday in the area during the winter months there’s always skiing in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Granada. Just 90 minutes from Malaga (and a beautiful drive through National Park) and you can be whizzing down a mountain run in brilliant sunshine. Even if you don’t ski, its well worth a day out just sitting outside a bar watching everyone else enjoy themselves. The scenery is unbelievable. The hotel accommodation is excellent value but you need to book well in advance if you wish to stay the night. |

During August Malaga hosts their Holy Week and parade through the streets, images worshiped by their churches. Organised by the local religious brotherhoods the processions are quite spectacular. Each religious image mounted on floats, tells the story of Christ’s passion and death - some of these floats have to be carried by as many as 250 men, which will give you an indication as to just how huge they are. After the religious festivals are over the parties start and the Spanish certainly know how to party. They usually last a week and either start or finish with the best firework display you could wish to see. |
